The
Hummingbird Festival was established in 1998
by Glenda Gordon of the Grand Hotel and
Jackie Byars of Van Byars Auctions and was
underwritten by John Hardy Jones, a local
developer and property owner. Together
with the hard work of many local helpers and
supporters, they made the Hummingbird
Festival a reality. There have been
12 festivals, the 2008 edition being the
12th.
The Festival has grown from a couple of
dozen vendors in the beginning to
approximately two hundred this year.
Attendance has grown as well, from around
1,000 in 1998 to over 16,000 festival-goers
in 2008.
